Grades of Chemicals
Grade |
Description |
Agricultural Grade |
This is one of the lowest grades of chemicals. Because the chemical is put into the dirt (usually for a fertilizer), there are very minimal requirements. |
Tech / Industrial Grade |
Technical/Industrial grade chemicals are produced with high purity for commercial or industrial use. |
Food Grade |
Food grade is often the same as tech/industrial grade but tested to comply with food safe standards, such as making sure there is no lead or other harmful materials in the chemical which would harm a human being if consumed. |
FCC |
The Food Chemical Codex is basically food grade with a little bit more stringent requirements such as chemicals having to be packed inside of a dedicated white room. |
USP |
US Pharmacopoeia grade chemicals are about the same standard as FCC and are acceptable for food, drugs or medicinal use. |
Reagent Grade |
Generally about the same purity as A.C.S. grade. This is suitable for most laboratory and analytical applications where highest purity is essential. |
A.C.S. |
