Sodium Chlorate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula of NaClO3. Its form is in a white crystal that is readily soluable in water. It is hygroscopic. It decomposes above 300°C to release oxygen and leave sodium chloride.
Sodium chlorate is commonly used to kill green plants since it is phytotoxic to all green plant parts. It can also kill through root absorption. It may be used to control plants such as morning glory, canada thirstle, johnson grass, bamboo, ragwort and St. John's wort. The herbicide is mainly used as a non-crop land for spot treatment and for total vegetable control on areas including roadsides, fenceways and ditches.
